The Big Sisters Group Mentoring Programme is a programme of the St. Hugh’s High School Past Students’ Association (SHPSA). It was initiated in 2010/11 with Grade 7 and has grown over the years toinclude Grades 7, 8, 9, 10 and as possible Grades 11, 12 & 13.

Past students are assigned to a class which they visit for a rap session with the current students

Any past student of SHHS may join the Programme once she is committed to the time and student interaction.

How does this Programme aim to work ?

The Mentoring Programme alone will not achieve this, but will provide key components through the provision of Good Role Models – in the form of the Past Student “Big Sister” Mentors who will:

  •  instill pride in the legacy of the school by sharing their experiences of the positive aspects of the school and how it helped them,
  •  promote core and other values by sharing how maintaining these values helps one in life,
  •  inspire and help to motivate students to prepare for their life beyond school by setting goals and working hard to achieve success,
  •  show concern regarding challenges the students have and help to resolve problems (working with the school).
